PT Quick Gauge

Note on Superheat vs. Subcool Temperature Glide
Blended refrigerants (like R-407C or R-454B) don’t boil or condense at one sharp temperature the way a pure refrigerant does. Instead, they transition over a small temperature range:

  • Superheat (dew point): On the suction side, refrigerant finishes boiling off at the dew temperature. That’s the reference for superheat.

  • Subcool (bubble point): On the liquid side, refrigerant finishes condensing at the bubble temperature. That’s the reference for subcool.

The small gap between dew and bubble is called temperature glide. It’s why you have to pick “suction” or “liquid” in the PT guide. If you don’t, readings will look “off” by several degrees.
